Dr. Scott Grigsby: Semi-Autonomous Motorcar

Chapter Meeting

Dr. Scott Grigsby presented on the Semi-Autonomous Motorcar project at a recent chapter meeting.

The Semi-Autonomous Motorcar (SAM) Project is an innovative project in which a 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray  has been modified with integrated advanced electronics and  a human-to-machine interface, allowing a qualified quadriplegic driver to safely operate it under racetrack conditions. The car made its public debut and achieved speeds of over 100 mph while driven by quadriplegic ex-Indy Car driver Sam Schmidt at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during Indy 500 qualifying on May 18th, 2014.
